The Client
Colorcon is a global manufacturer of formulated coatings and tablet delivery systems servicing the pharmaceutical and nutritional supplement industries. Its UK operations are based in Dartford Kent and comprise offices, laboratories, manufacturing facilities and warehousing over 106,000ft2.
The Challenge
The company has an on-going global energy initiative to lower its carbon footprint and reduce operational overhead. To help it achieve these objectives, the company draws on Envido’s expertise to understand consumption patterns, save energy and reduce cost across their process and building services.
The Envido Solution
Envido deployed its Virtual Energy Manager (VEM) service, enabling Colorcon to actively manage consumption cost-effectively, without increasing headcount.
A dedicated energy manager works to identify energy savings initiatives via the use of metering data, while the service, also allows Colorcon to draw on any combination of Envido’s specialists to solve the any issues and address internal skill gaps from process engineering and facilities management, through to staff engagement and culture change.
Following smart metering installation across manufacturing plant, laboratories and office facilities, the VEM service has captured a number of short term, low-cost-no cost measures that have delivered immediate savings with several out-of-hour run-time alerts optimising plant controls plant and BMS scheduling. Forensic on-site energy assessments guide further improvement and have identified more significant measures.
The Outcomes
Incremental energy saving improvements have reduced consumption by 15%. Overnight switch off of compressors, revised chiller and air handling unit start times and upgrade to high-efficiency lighting and integrated smart control have all made significant improvements that would otherwise not have been addressed.
