The Green500 is the premier carbon mentoring service for large organisations based in London. Supported by the Mayor of London, the scheme aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 million tonnes by 2010 - the equivalent to a saving of around £150 million in energy bills.

The scheme provides members with practical advice and support to reduce their carbon emissions and recognises and rewards members' commitment to excellence in carbon reduction through an annual awards ceremony hosted by the Mayor of London.

About the Green500 scheme

The Green500 programme rewards organisations for genuine carbon reductions that contribute directly to the Mayor's carbon targets. The Green500 has a target to cut London's emissions by 1.5 million tonnes, saving at least £2.5million in energy bills.

As Green500 members you will receive carbon assessment, and guidance from the Green500 on how to develop an emissions reduction plan and commit to publish their progress annually. The Green500 'carbon mentor' works with businesses to help them implement the plan and achieve their carbon reduction target. At the end of each year is an awards ceremony to recognise those who reach their target and for top achievers.

The Green500 Awards comprise of five awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. These reflect an organisation's carbon savings and success in implementing their carbon reduction action plans. The decision as to what level of award each organisation receives is made by the National Energy Foundation.

The programme is part funded by the London Development Agency to help deliver the Mayor's target to cut London's emissions by 60 per cent by 2025, create green collar jobs and stimulate a low carbon economy. Together, over the last year, the 200 Green500 members have saved a massive 117,000 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to taking 100 double decker buses off London's streets which would also fill 8.3billion footballs.
